The Surrounding Area

County Fermanagh is known as the ‘Lake County’ and for those of you who seek a few precious moments of solitude and the thrill of hooking a rewarding catch, there is no doubt that the shores of Lough Erne are deemed to be the best in the British Isles for the keen fisherman. A few minutes drive takes you to the Lower Erne Bridge where you can fish from the pier.

Other options for the visiting anglers include Moorlough Lake, Lough Ash and the challenge of pike fishing on Baronscourt Estate. Visiting anglers are always made welcome on Lough Melvin and the River Drouse, famous for the first salmon of the year netted on the 1st January.

However, if fishing is not what you enjoy, there are numerous activities to choose from.

Enjoy an outing to the beaches at Bundoran, Rossnowlough and Mullaghmore.

Take a day trip to Marble Arch Caves, Ulster American Folk Park, Glenveagh National Park, Culcaigh Board Walk and many more. Enjoy long walks in Castlecaldwell. Go hydro-biking or water-trampolining at Castlearchdale. Hire a boat or explore Devenish Island. There are numerous activities to choose from.

Drive to Lough Navar to enjoy a walking trail as well as the spectacular views over Lower Lough Erne, the Blue Stack and Sperrin Mountains.

The Enniskillen Taste Experience offers a guided walking tour, stopping along the way to sample an indulgent mix of food and drink. Visit Blakes of the Hollow and see “Door of Thrones Number 4”. Book a tour of the Boatyard Distillery and Enniskillen Castle Museum or head to the Headhunters Barber Shop and Railway Museum. There is something to suit everyone.

Whatever you do and wherever you go, you can be assured of a warm welcome at Erne Villa, Co. Fermanagh.
